SUNK
The motor vessel Kilbulk
sank in Hjeltefjorden
at
Austrheim on the 27th of July 1987 during a passage from Årdal to Måløy
with a cargo of sand and a crew of four men. After the vessel hit the Mikkelsbåen
late in the night, a distress call was sent out: but while she was stranded on the Mikkelsbåen the crew were washed overboard
by the stormy seas. The crew were tossed in the water for a while before they were
picked up by another vessel. Later that same day Kilbulk sank.
DIVING
The wreck of Kilbulk lies today in two pieces, with the stern upright like a "Donald Duck"
wreck, while the rest of the wreck lies upside down.
The depth on the wreck is 26m to 35m, and can be located approximately
100m straight north east of the pole on Mikkelsbåen. The site is only
available by a boat in nice weather.
